Our Northern Counties’ (Ice Storm of ’94)
If you have been in Memphis for awhile the Ice Storm of 1994 is likely still a distinct memory. The storm essentially shut down the city for days with many losing power for an extended period of time. Cars and homes were damaged. It was a big problem and took days to recover for many Memphian’s. Our friends in Northeast Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel, and extreme Northwest Tennessee have now experienced an Ice Storm which at least rivals the 1994 storm. Here are some of the sobering pictures one of our viewers emailed me last night. Check them out…
These pics are from Kennet Missouri…
Some of our viewers are still without power…

I remember the ice storm of 94 all to well. I was in 5th grade, It was fun during the day with no power, But as night fell on the first night without power set in, I will admit I started to get scared, But oil lamps books and a fire helped alot. I count my blessings that my grandmother and I were only without power for about 14 hours. Being on the same power circuit as the State correctional facility has it’s perks. I also agree this rivals the ice storm of 94. Though technology has drastically improved, it doesn’t completely compensate for mother nature, and the damage she can cause.
