A Day of Transition

August 30, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

It’s back to the 90s later this work week.  In the meantime, we’ve got one more day of afternoon highs in the 80s.

There is a slight chance of showers later today under otherwise mostly cloudy skies.  Most folks won’t get rain…those who do will most likely get less than .25″.

Rain chances diminish tonight, and we’ll have a low in the lower 70s.

Then come the 90s.  Check out the 7 DAY FORECAST to see how hot it will become.

A Bit of a Break

August 05, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

Many Mid-Southerners are expected to let out a sigh of relief as a few more widespread showers and thundershowers are possible today.

A cold front is expected to arrive from the north and combined with the hot, humid conditions in place, offer our best chance for precipitation this week.

Regardless, afternoon highs and heat indices will peak above 100 degrees across much of the area, especially the southern 2/3rds of the ACTION NEWS 5 coverage area.

The EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is currently still in effect, meaning we may see heat indices over 110 & maybe even over 115 degrees.

A Sizzling Saturday

July 31, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

Saturday morning began with temps near 80 degrees. It’s true we are keeping an eye on a couple of potential complexes that could trip off a few showers this afternoon.

However, most of the Mid-South will remain rain-free. It’ll be mostly sunny today with little shade offered up through cloud cover.

In fact, we’ll have a high in the upper 90s for the next several days with lows near 80 degrees. Heat indices will top 100 and probably even 105 degrees for parts of this afternoon.

There’s a HEAT ADVISORY through 8pm Sunday evening. Be careful & stay cool!

Heat Index Back In The Vocabulary

June 10, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

This afternoon we topped out near 90 degrees with a Heat Index of 99 degrees. There have been a few thundershowers, but rain chances diminish on Friday, clearing the way for a quiet but hot weekend.
This weekend we won’t catch a break from the heat or the humidity.
Highs will warm into the low to mid 90s with the possibility of Heat Indices topping 100 degrees on weekend afternoons.

DB & The Sunshine Trend

May 28, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk 1 Comment →

Dave Brown’s been perusing the computer model data this afternoon and is confident that most Mid-Southerners will remain dry for most of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.   Highs near 90, and lows near 70.

In fact with scattered cloud cover, it looks like the words “sunshine,” “warm,” and perhaps even “humid” could be used to describe the next few days.

Hopefully severe weather won’t be part of the weekend, including the Sunset Symphony Performance with this guy…

Nice weather…that’s the way we like it…uh huh uh huh!

Settling on An Unsettled Pattern

May 13, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

Although a few isolated showers popped up over northeastern Mississippi this afternoon, we’re awaiting a cold front to make a partial push through the Mid-South.

Since the cold front is not expected to completely exit the region immediately, we’re stuck with on-again, off-again rain and thundershower chances. It’s a good idea to keep an umbrella nearby for quickly-developing rainfall.

Highs will still be near the low 80s and lows in the 60s. Rain chances linger through the weekend, then we’ll dry out next week with highs still near 80.

A Warm Wednesday

May 05, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk 1 Comment →

Temps have eased up into the mid & upper 80s throughout the region this afternoon. There is a cold front that will sag into parts of the Mid-South tonight, but precipitation is not expected…nor is a significant temp dip.

A surge of warm air will force the cooler air mass to the north, meaning another round of upper 80s for Thursday.

There’s a slight chance of rain Friday night and possibly late in the weekend.

Dave’s got a closer look at it al on ACTION NEWS 5 @ 5, 6 & 10pm & wmctv.com.

Thank you to everyone who took time to submit reports/photos/video from the recent storms and for the outpouring of kind support through your emails.

Good Friday…Soggy Saturday?

April 02, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

There’s a WIND ADVISORY for parts of the eastern Arkansas until 2 a.m.

It’s a breezy and mostly cloudy afternoon. Temps will be well above the norm of 68 degrees…we should hit near 80.

Rain and thundershowers are possible later tonight. As of right now, eastern Arkansas looks to have the best chance for stronger storms. The timing? After 10pm for areas west of the mighty Mississippi, around midnight and after for points east.

There’s a good chance that the rain wraps up by mid-morning Saturday, leaving us with some sunshine for the remainder of the day and for Easter Sunday.

Ron will have the latest computer forecast model interpretation on ACTION NEWS 5 @ 5,6 & 10pm and on wmctv.com.

Hello Sunshine!

March 19, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

It looks like we will wrap up the work week with a heaping helping of sunshine. It could be a “brown bag lunch” kind of day as temperatures near 70 degrees might just make you want to take your lunch outside to eat.

Saturday night into Sunday looks to be the best time for our rainfall this weekend. A couple of computer models are holding off on the cooler air until later on Sunday, so Saturday night looks to be a bit warmer than originally thought.

Be sure to check out the 7 DAY FORECAST to help plan your weekend!

Warmer For The Weekend

February 25, 2010 By: timvanhorn Category: Tim Van Horn, Weather Talk No Comments →

The most recent computer models remain consistent in projecting warmer temperatures just in time for the weekend.

While we’ve struggled to hit the 40 degree mark in parts of the Mid-South, it looks like mid 40s for Friday then pushing 50 for Saturday and especially on Sunday. Despite a noticeable difference, these numbers still fall shy of the average high in the mid 50s.

There is a catch, of course. Overnight lows for the next week will continue to plummet near and below freezing.

Rain chances remain very slim until around Monday night.
